I was especially disappointed because it would have been my first opportunity in years to reconnect with colleagues and finally meet many of the Board members I would soon be serving alongside. My local chapter, NEACHMM, was also being recognized as Chapter of the Year, a celebration we had hoped to share together.
What followed was something I'll never forget. I watched volunteers, staff, and leaders come together with remarkable determination to create AHMP's first-ever virtual conference. It wasn't what anyone had envisioned, but considering the circumstances, it was a success. More importantly, it demonstrated something that has always defined this organization and its members: when faced with adversity, we adapt.
The following year, I had the privilege of serving as Vice Chair of AHMP. Once again, we confronted the difficult realization that an in-person conference simply wasn't possible. Like many professional organizations, we felt the weight of the pandemic. Attendance fluctuated, uncertainty lingered, and there were moments when it would have been easy to lose momentum.
Conference by conference, year by year, we found our footing again. Las Vegas reminded us how valuable it was to be back together. Then something remarkable happened. Through countless hours of volunteer service, fresh ideas, new leadership, and a shared commitment to our mission, AHMP didn't simply recover, it grew stronger. Each conference built upon the last, restoring our momentum and reaffirming AHMP's place as the premier professional home for environmental, health, safety, and security professionals.
AHMP's story mirrors the story of our profession. Environmental, health, safety, and security professionals have navigated years of unprecedented challenges from evolving regulations and administrative uncertainty to increasingly complex environmental issues and some of the most significant contamination events of our careers. Yet through it all, our work has never been more important. Our members continue to protect people, communities, workplaces, and the environment with expertise, integrity, and resilience.
I encourage you to reflect not only on how far AHMP has come, but also on your own journey. Think about the challenges you've overcome, the knowledge you've gained, the colleagues you've met, and the impact you've made. AHMP's story has been written by members willing to give their time and talents.
Today, I remain honored to serve AHMP as Legal Counsel. Nearly every Board position has turned over since I first joined, yet the passion of the people who dedicate their time and talents to this organization has remained constant. I could not be prouder of the team leading AHMP today, and I have every confidence that New Orleans will be one of our most successful conferences yet.

Just Announced: Emergency Response Scenario (ERS) -
October 1 | Immediately after the Plenary Session
Location: Louisiana State Police Joint Emergency Services Training Center (JESTC) in Zachary, Louisiana
This year's ERS will involve several different public response organizations, E3 Environmental and Onterris. The incident will center around a failure during a high-pressure transfer of an anhydrous ammonia from a rail car to a bulk tanker. These activities present unique challenges for the response community. US Railroads move approximately 2 million carloads of hazardous materials each year.
We hope you will join us for this unique learning experience.
Participation in the ERS incurs a separate fee and includes transportation to and from the venue and lunch. Cost: $99 per person | Limit: 55 participants
