June 2026

Your update on the latest news and events from AHMP.

Message From the Board:
From the Treasurer's Desk

As we move through 2026, I want to take a moment to discuss two important topics: the value of participating in the upcoming AHMP EHS Hazmat Summit and the ongoing efforts to ensure AHMP remains financially strong and operationally effective for years to come.

Why the Summit Matters

In This Issue:
  • Message from the Board of Directors
  • 2026 EHS HazMat Summit
  • EHS Hero Webinar
  • June Webinar
  • EHMM Night School
  • Chapter Trivia Contest
  • IHMM News

Each year, the AHMP EHS Hazmat Summit brings together environmental, health, safety, hazardous materials, emergency response, and sustainability professionals from across the country. While the technical sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities are well known, the Summit's true value extends far beyond the conference agenda.

For attendees, the Summit provides:

* Access to current regulatory, technical, and industry developments.
* Practical solutions that can be immediately applied in the workplace.
* Opportunities to learn from experienced practitioners and subject matter experts.
* Valuable networking with peers facing similar challenges.
* Professional development that supports career growth and certification maintenance.

For AHMP, the Summit is also one of our most important investments in the profession. It serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, leadership development, and strengthening the professional community that makes AHMP unique.

Whether you are a long-time member or attending for the first time, I encourage you to consider the Summit not as an expense, but as an investment in your professional future. The relationships formed, lessons learned, and ideas exchanged often provide value long after the event concludes.

Financial Stewardship and Looking Ahead

As Treasurer, one of my primary responsibilities is ensuring that AHMP remains financially healthy while providing value to our members.

I am pleased to report that the Executive Committee and Board of Directors continue to actively evaluate opportunities to strengthen AHMP's financial management processes and administrative operations. As part of this effort, we are reviewing several options designed to improve efficiency, enhance financial oversight, and reduce the administrative burden currently placed on volunteer leadership positions, particularly the Treasurer and President.

Like many professional associations, AHMP relies heavily on dedicated volunteers who contribute significant time and expertise to support the organization. By exploring updated financial management and administrative support models, our goal is to ensure that volunteer leaders can focus more of their efforts on strategic initiatives, member engagement, and advancing the profession, while maintaining strong fiscal accountability and transparency.

These evaluations are part of our ongoing commitment to responsible stewardship of Association resources and ensuring AHMP is well-positioned to serve members both now and in the future.

Thank You

On behalf of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support of AHMP. Your membership, volunteer service, Summit participation, and professional engagement are what make this organization successful.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming EHS Hazmat Summit and working together to continue building a strong future for AHMP.

Respectfully,

Dave Rice, CHMM
Treasurer, AHMP

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT

The past is full of things we used to do that were dangerous, hazardous, or even deadly, but we did it anyway. Why? Sometimes for fun, or because we were paid to, or just because we didn't know what else to do. This presentation is full of nostalgic photos from our history of things we used to do that caused a revolution involving change instituting our now known laws and regulations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Historical events that caused current OSHA regulations
  • Historical events that caused current EPA regulations
  • Historical events that caused current NFPA regulations
