it, yes, I know, it can be daunting, thinking of adding another scoop to your already full plate. Between work, family, and all the other commitments you have, why would you add the time and effort to help manage a national professional organization?
Though I can’t answer that question for everyone, I can share with you why I answered the call. First, I believed that I had a unique perspective and experience that could benefit the organization. Second, I believed that as a EHS professional who had benefited from both the local and national AHMP, it was incumbent upon me step up and help it grow and develop just as it has helped me do the same. Third, as subscriber to the servant leadership philosophy, I believed that by volunteering my time and experience, I would be able to help AHMP become a better organization. And finally, as a resident of the “The Volunteer State” (Tennessee), it is required by state law (just kidding, but it is on my driver’s license).
So, if you are a leader (and I know you all are) who wants to give back to AHMP, expand your professional reach, elevate your voice, share your experience, and shape the future of AHMP, I challenge you to answer the call.
See you in Louisville!
Sincerely, Robert Wilkinson AHMP Vice Chair Proud Resident of “The Volunteer State”

EHMM Night School
Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management (EHMM) 10 Week Course September 17 – November 19, 2025 Wednesdays from 6:00 - 9:30 PM EDT/EST
For the past several years, AHMP has hosted a virtual Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management course in the Fall. This will be presented (live) via the Zoom Platform with ability to interact with the instructors and fellow students. The course consists of topics divided into ten segments that are 3 to 3.5 hours long, which helps students to have less overload and more fully absorb the materials.
The EHMM training curriculum aligns directly with the current AHMP Desk Reference (4th Edition) and a complimentary electronic copy of the Desk Reference is included with your EHMM course registration.
We are offering an optional quiz link after you’ve completed the course. These questions are designed to help you identify the (post EHMM course) topics in which you’re competent and those for which you may need additional study prior to taking the CHMM exam.
The course will be taught by several trainers who are subject matter experts and have vast knowledge about the topics they will be teaching. With a variety of trainers, it should keep the course lively and interesting.
While not specifically a pre-exam preparatory course, it is certainly a great way to prepare in advance of the CHMM or CHMP exam. For those who already hold certification to the CHMM, PE, PG or other credential, this course is a great way to stay current with your career field and get 2.4 CEUs in a short period of time. If you’ve not been in the environmental field very long – this is a great way to get an overview of those areas in which you aren’t currently experienced. There is no required test at the end of this course so it’s low stress.
If you’re unsure if this is a suitable course for you, please contact our EHMM course facilitator, Jennifer Koenig at (812) 945-1541 or [email protected].

IHMM News
- IHMM has earned continued accreditation by the American National Standards Institute [ANAB/ANSI] for its CHMM, CHMP, and CDGP credentials after its annual review and audit of IHMM’s operations. ANSI accreditation is the world’s gold standard for independent accreditation under the ISO 17024:2012 standard.
- IHMM’s marketing programs that see more than 1.1 million messages sent each month are resulting in a 27% increase in certification applications, including 505 applications for our CHMM credential in 2025 through the end of June.
- IHMM announced in June the creation of digital badges via BadgeCert, now in use for all IHMM certificants, that allow all to promote their certified success through social media, emails, and other platforms, as well as being able to print their own certificates and wallet cards.
- IHMM is launching its Business Leaders Academy in September, providing more than 40 hours of business operations training that participants may claim up to 40 CMPs. https://hazmatsociety.org/ihmm-business-leaders-academy-coming-this-september-2/
- IHMM has two regulatory actions pending Government Affairs review for comment: one at PHMSA https://ihmm.org/ihmm-government-affairs/and one at OSHA https://ihmm.org/36918-2/
- IHMM is on the Steering Committee of Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition and the Community Impact Coalition, advocating for H.R. 1151 and S 756: allowing applicant and certificant expenses to be paid for through IRS 529 plans and lobbying Congress not to tax nonprofit corporations. As our language was added to H.R. 1, which has passed the Senate, we have achieved both objectives. https://ihmm.org/h-r-1-what-did-the-u-s-senate-pass/
