Message From the Board:

Good Day, Everyone:

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer, even though the season is soon coming to an end and the weather has been extremely challenging to say the least. This is a time to spend with family and friends and "recharge your batteries" to stay strong as we head into the later part of the year. Many of you are also experiencing college move-ins with your children, and it can be a very stressful time for everyone. Fortunately, I have had a positive experience with all my kids pursuing their education at various universities and relied on a strong family to help process the many different emotions and expectations that are undoubtedly going to happen during this time.

In This Issue:
  • Message from the Board of Directors
  • 2026 EHS HazMat Summit
  • Call for Board Nominations
  • August Webinar
  • EHMM Night School
  • Fraudulent Emails
  • IHMM News

As most of you already know and expect, our annual conference is upcoming in New Orleans, LA and is only a month away. The venue and location are going to be terrific this year, even though we are in the middle of hurricane season as some of you are well aware. There are plenty of great presenters being scheduled to provide their expertise in our industry for our conference, along with a lineup of a variety of extracurricular activities to keep things interesting throughout the conference schedule.

What I would like to also focus on in this message is how we all came to this spot in our careers, professional certification and these annual conferences. More than 30 years ago, I pursued my very first professional certification - Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). It was both challenging and rewarding at the same time, and it inspired me to pursue other licenses and certifications throughout my career. Additionally, I had no idea that I would be entering a career in the environmental field while I completed an engineering degree. But many of you probably experienced this as well while they navigated your careers. That being said, I would like challenge all of us to look to inspire the next level of environmental professionals to both pursue this certification (CHMM) and join AHMP as they continue expanding their environmental careers. It is incumbent upon the current membership cohort to use the positive experiences in obtaining your CHMM credential and participating in AHMP events to try and persuade others to join our expanding team. As our profession evolves with various regulations and other changes, it is important that the next wave of professionals look to support and expand our existing cohort with AHMP. Most of us are volunteers that provide our time and effort to better AHMP for the future. The long term focus of AHMP is bright and inspiring, but we need to continue to push for positive membership increases. Any help or support is greatly appreciated.

As I started with the conversation, everyone who has a CHMM credential, is a current member of AHMP or who supports the environmental field in some capacity, are being asked to take on the responsibility of helping our team expand our AHMP memberships. We hope to see many of you at our annual conference next month in New Orleans!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summers. See everyone soon!

Fraudulent Emails Impersonating AHMP Leadership

AHMP members should be aware of fraudulent emails impersonating members of our Board and Executive Committee. These messages may appear to come from a familiar name but use an unrelated email domain and request an urgent response, payment, gift card purchase, money transfer, or link click.

Please carefully verify the sender’s full email address (specifically the domain name) before responding. AHMP leadership will never ask members by email to make an immediate personal payment on the organization’s behalf.
