The Awards Process

General Instructions and Guidance for Nominators and Reviewers

The award recipients will be recognized with a certificate and/or a plaque. The items will be given to the recipients at the annual AHMP National Conference, where the nominees and recipients will be publicly commended for their efforts that elevate the CHMM credential and foment the success of their local chapters and AHMP.

All awards will be given every year in which at least one nominee meets the minimum criteria. An important criteria when evaluating nominations is how nominees have promoted AHMP’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. You can read that information here. Under special circumstances, the AHMP board of directors may give an award to multiple recipients at the behest of the Awards Committee with final decision.

Eligibility for the four Certified Member Awards is limited to AHMP members in good standing who have achieved a hazardous materials management-related certifying credential from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (e.g CHMM, CHMP, CDGP) or other accredited certifying programs recognized by the AHMP board of directors (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHP, CPEA, CET, PE, PG). Review the AHMP Membership Categories for details.

There are no standard nomination forms to complete. Instead, nominators will utilize the appropriate award cover sheet for a nomination document, filling in the heading completely but leaving the rest of the form blank for the reviewers’ use.

Nomination documents must contain sufficient documentation and narration to substantiate all statements and claims as to how the award criteria are met by the nominee. Refer to the award cover sheet to make sure your submittal contains everything necessary to demonstrate that the criteria have been met, as changes shall not be made to submittals after receipt. Separate nominations and accompanying award cover sheets must be submitted for each award. Please read the criteria carefully; most awards are based on achievements in a single year, while other awards allow a longer term, so make sure the nomination is clear regarding the timeframe referenced by each award description.

For the four Certified Member awards, both nominators and nominees shall be current members of AHMP in good standing with all dues paid. The three Chapter awards shall be nominated and signed by the chapter presidents who shall be current members of AHMP in good standing with all dues paid. The nominators for the two Friend awards shall be current members of AHMP in good standing with all dues paid. Note: AHMP members in good standing with all dues paid who are not associated with a chapter may self-nominate and sign for the four individual awards.

Nominations with their cover sheets must be received by the deadline. Nominations must be submitted electronically to Click on the links below to download the cover sheets:

The Awards Committee’s board liaison will be provided with a list of nominators and nominees and will perform verification of AHMP membership and paid dues with the cooperation of the AHMP office. Results of the records search will be provided to the Awards Committee chair. Meanwhile, the Awards Committee will review nominations and select recipients for awards. If the Awards Committee experiences ties or disputes in designation of any award winner(s), the board of directors will assist in the resolution.
