AHMP Fact Sheet
The Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) formerly Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, Inc. (ACHMM) is a professional association with a membership of more than 4,000 of the nation’s leading experts in environmental, health and safety management. Its core purpose is to foster a community of professionals and to jointly advocate for the public recognition of the value of the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager® (CHMM®) credential, the standards it represents and the professionals who uphold it. Members are distributed across 65 chapters in 37 states plus the District of Columbia, Guam and India. AHMP’s members work in a variety of fields dealing with hazardous materials and environmental, health, and safety and security issues. Numerous national and local committees represent the credential to government, academia and industry.
Eleven elected officials, including five officers and six directors, head AHMP. A member-driven organization, AHMP has 10 different committees that direct different aspects of member involvement, including: Awards, Chapter Development, National Conference, Government Affairs, Marketing, Membership, Publications and Professional Development.
AHMP headquarters are located on the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) campus in Bethesda, Maryland, just outside Washington D.C.
AHMP offers informative programs, networking opportunities and many benefits to its members:
- AHMP members gather annually during its national conference, which features many learning and networking opportunities, and which takes place at different locations throughout the country.
- AHMP publishes the Hazardous Materials Management Desk Reference, now in its second edition, a comprehensive resource on topics such as Federal laws and regulations, safety principles, risk analysis and others.
- AHMP members participate in a two-day Leadership Workshop, designed to teach career skills and provide professional development opportunities.
- AHMP's Cyber Chapter meets online, and can be accessed by any member across the country or the world.
- CHMMunity is an AHMP program designed for members to share their expertise to benefit the community.
- AHMP works with state, federal and industry entities to increase recognition of the CHMM credential.
- The AHMP web site (www.ahmpnet.org) features exclusive job listings for members and other industry professionals.
- AHMP communicates regularly with its members, keeping them informed about industry topics and events, via topical e-mails and a monthly e-newsletter.
